Would ancient Sith Lords despise Darth Vader

An ancient Sith Lord recently made their Star Wars canon debut, in the latest Star Wars Marvel Comics issue, adding to its short list of confirmed Sith Lords.

Marvel Comics continues hitting the ball out of the park with its latest Star Wars run, providing exciting stories from a galaxy far, far away. The Darth Vader (2017) run is currently heating up, while the main Star Wars Marvel Comics line is getting to the good stuff.

Sith Lords are their specialty, and not just with Darth Vader or Darth Sidious. In the recent Star Wars Annual (Issue No.4) an ancient Sith Lord from times past is mentioned in the story, making this particular Sith Lord part of the Star Warscanon.

Before you get too excited, it’s not Darth Revan, but a brand-new name — Darth Atrius. Even though he’s yet to appear in the story officially, his name and legacy live on through Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader’s arc in the Star Wars Marvel Comics run.

More from Dork Side of the Force

A smuggler gets her hands on two relic cross-bladed lightsabers, similar to the design of Kylo Ren’s weapon from the sequel trilogy. The name of their former Master, the ancient Sith Darth Atrius is revealed, showing the true potential of both weapons in the process.

When wielded together, the power of both lightsabers can transfer the anger, and possibly essence of the deceased Darth Atrius. What we’ve learned from Star Wars canon is that Sith artifacts contain a great power of the Dark Side; leaving a bit of the personality from their former owner.

The Aftermath trilogy, Marvel Comics run, and Star Wars Rebels are prime examples of such truth.

Unfortunately for those seeking its power, both Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker destroy each blade — for reasons you’ll have to discover yourself while reading the comic.

Even though the list is currently small, here’s all of the Sith Lords (officially) part of the Star Wars canon.

  • Darth Atrius
  • Darth Bane
  • Darth Plagueius
  • Darth Sidious (Emperor Palpatine)
  • Darth Maul
  • Darth Tyranus (Count Dooku)
  • Darth Vader (formerly Anakin Skywalker)

Darth Revan was nearly added to the Star Wars canon timeline during the Mortis arc of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, but the scene hit the cutting room floor.

Also, remember, that both Kylo Ren and Snoke are not Sith, but Dark Side practitioners of another kind.

Even though the Lucasfilm story group is taking their time adding Sith Lord’s to the Star Wars canon, maybe this will open the floodgates for more stories on Darth Bane, Darth Plagueius, and perhaps the introduction of Darth Revan himself. We can only hope, right?

There’s always a bit of truth in Legends.
